Blackpool-born Cast Member leads week-long Mamma Mia workshop

Summer might be a recent memory for some of us, but the team at Scream Theatre Schools are already preparing to make THIS year’s Summer courses the best yet. And we’ve recruited former Scream student - and star of the current international tour - Ashley Luke-Lloyd to rehearse our youngsters and ready them for an end-of-week presentation of the hit musical.

“We’re looking for the North´s Super Troupers and Dancing Queens to come and join us for a week of Performing Arts fun, taught by Ashley, who is on the worldwide tour of the award-winning ABBA musical,” explains spokeswoman Jessica Bell. “The show is as popular as ever, so when we heard our youngsters saying Gimme Gimme Gimme, we knew we had to spring into action and provide a great summer course for those who kept saying I Have A Dream. It won’t cost a lot of Money Money Money, and if it’s anything like Our Last Summer, we’ll be sure to have a whole rabble of the Fylde Coast’s most talented youngsters signed up.”

Scream Theatre Schools was founded in Blackpool in 1998 and has provided professional Performing Arts training to hundreds of youngsters ever since - with many going on to carve their own successful careers on-stage and on-screen, with sister company Scream Management based in Manchester’s MediaCity. Current Scream students can be seen in regular roles on ITV’s Coronation Street and Emmerdale, in commercials, on the West End stage, and even Disney feature films.

“Even Jenna-Louise Coleman got her first break with Scream, long before she stepped through the hallowed door of the TARDIS,” retorts Helen, referring to the current companion to BBC One’s long-standing Time Lord Doctor Who.

Ashley is currently trotting around the globe as a leading cast member in the hit ABBA musical, and is pleased to be heading home to his old stomping ground next summer.  Ashley´s Blackpool through-and-through, explains Jess.  He grew up in the town, still has family here, and returns whenever he can as a guest teacher at Scream.  We´ve watched him grow from a shy young boy, into a successful performer, and he is thrilled to be giving something back to the town while he´s home.

The Mamma Mia course begins on Monday 28th July and provides five days of expert tuition in Acting, Singing and Dancing, for those between the ages of 6 and 16, and includes a ticket to see the production whilst in town. The course coincides with the tour ‘stopping off’ for ten weeks at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, and will be lead by the cast members from the show.
